Leopard Census - Phase 2

Phase 1 of the Leopard Census was completed during November 2017. After 3 months in the field, establishing sites, placing cameras and collecting data, Dr Louisa Richmond-Coggan is now working through thousands of images captured to analyse the data. Louisa recently provided us with some fantastic photos, all captured in the field by our sponsored Minox wildlife cameras, giving wonderful insight into the buzz in the veld.

Phase 2 of the Census is envisioned to kick off in March 2018, subject to the issuance of a research visa by the Ministry of Home Affairs. This field phase is scheduled for another 3 months.

Submitting photos.
Leopard questionnaire.
All data to be submitted to Louisa by email.

Commercial Conservancies

Unofficial reports have given rise to a lot of uncertainty amongst members that MET intends to terminate the registration of commercial (freehold) conservancies as trophy hunting areas.
In the absence of official correspondence from MET, CANAM (Conservancies Association of Namibia) and NAPHA are in regular contact and wish to share with members that a formal letter was addressed to MET to clarify the situation. A number of concerns were raised as well as the impact this might have on the Trophy Hunting Profession within these Conservancies and beyond borders.

More information on this topic will be shared as soon as we have received an update.

Marketing of NAPHA Members

We are in the process of creating a Google Map for Namibian Hunting Professionals registered with NAPHA. This can be viewed here:
https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1Hylpz4uiuVjrFjtmIpa2MGX-a0w&hl=en&usp=sharing.
Please click on the link and search for your name. If your location is pinned, kindly ensure that it is correct. If your location is not pinned, please urgently submit your GPS coordinates to ensure that we plot the correct location.

Furthermore, in order to ensure we can keep you updated on the latest events and news related to the hunting industry and to market you correctly, we would like to ensure we hold the most up-to-date details for you. If your details have changed, please let us know.

Note to members

Members are reminded of the following:

Permits - NAPHA submits permit applications to MET every Monday and Thursday, at around 09:00. Please ensure that your permits reach the office well in advance, as processing by MET takes about 5 days. Always ensure that your applications are fully completed, signed, include a passport copy of the client and a letter of permission granting you hunting rights if you hunt in an area that you do not own. This prevents unnecessary delays with the issuing of permits.

Membership Cards - Fully paid up members may collect their 2017/2018 membership cards from the office.

Certificates - Participants in the Basic Archery Instructor Training may collect their certificates from the office.
Looking to rent a 20 gauge shotgun for a week in early April 2018. Please contact Jofie Lamprecht.
