Press Release

MET Permit Procedures
During a meeting with the MET Permit Office the following transpired:
1.) The regional MET offices are not yet authorized to issue (biltong) hunting permits, due to late submission of notification of the hunting season to the Government Gazette, therefore all permits need to be applied for at Head Office in Windhoek.
2.) It is not advisable to apply for simultaneous hunts, if this can be avoided. Should this be unavoidable, please submit an updated report on active permit(s) together with the application for a new permit. Such reports should include trophy quota on specific specie, number utilized, number remaining, active permit numbers, date of report.
3.) Reporting on harvested animals needs to be adhered to as per MET requirements, please contact Rivelda (061) 284 2540, Selma (061) 284 2538 or Mrs Lombard at imelda.lombard@met.gov.na.
4.) We strongly recommend that all members use the prescribed application document - copies available here: Plains Game or Predator Permit Application.
5.) The Online Permit System will hopefully be implemented in the not too distant future, enabling quicker processing of permits and direct contact with Permit Office online.
6.) When submitting permit applications directly to MET, please reconfirm that all information has been received about 3-4 days after submission. No permits will be processed without complete information. Please check that farm names are filled in correctly and if applicable that tags allocated correspond with original application.

The Permit Office has a vacancy, due to the resignation of Ms Thecha Gerike. We therefore wish to remind our members to submit permit applications in good time (at least 10 days before commencement of the hunt) to ensure timeous processing.
Giraffe Conservation Project

The Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) has requested the input of NAPHA Members who would be able to assist with a Giraffe Hoof Study.
The GCF requires 10 sets of giraffe hoofs to analyse and compare with hoof in zoos to help understand the difference.
The detailed request and contact details can be downloaded here.

The Foundation has shared a Country Profile depicting Giraffe study results in Namibia. Please click here to see this report.

In addition the GCP has a vacancy on offer. Please read here, should you be interested.

Repeating lies does not make them true – Breach of EU legislation?
Hunting, in all of its forms, is increasingly facing criticism across the globe. Attacks on hunting persevere despite proof that it plays an essential role in wildlife management, conservation, food security and the generation of livelihoods. The International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) representing 30 million hunters worldwide calls to stop the misperceptions and myths about sustainable hunting, and has expressed its sincere concern about ideologically driven, repeated petitions related to the ban of hunting trophy imports, based on false information, and circulating in Europe. Trophy import bans recently implemented by The Netherlands, and France are apparently breaching ... [read more]
