Last night, the Hunters United Against Poaching (HUAP) Trust had the pleasure of hosting the second Gala dinner and fund raising auction.
The evening was hosted by our very own Josey Nghipandua, with public addresses by the HUAP Trust Chairman, Falko Schwarz, NAPHA President, Danene van der Westhuyzen and the Honorable Minister of Environment and Tourism, Pohamba Shifeta. Musical entertainment was provided by local artist, Lize Ehlers.
Alex McDonald from NamAgri expertly conducted the auction.
The Gala Event was not quite the success we had envisioned, with our wonderful rhino unable to find a permanent home and selected auction items being unsold. Nonetheless - we decided to focus on the positive outcome while starting with plans to tackle the selling of items unsold.
This auction was also a first for Namibia with the online bidding platform running concurrently with the live auction. This has never been done before within Namibia.
The funds raised, though considerably less than in 2015, are not insignificant (NAD866,000.00) and will help us with projects aimed at anti-poaching.
The Auction will continue.
The items not sold at the Gala event will remain on the online bidding platform
, which continues until the lots are closed at the NAPHA Annual General Meeting, on 28 November 2017. Therefore, we ask that everyone spreads the word. We want to reach the furthest corners of the earth, we want to continue marketing Namibia and trust that we will find a suitable home for our beautifully sculpted marble rhino.
And, of course, we once again thank our sponsors, our artist Gé Pellini, our supporters and bidders, our organizers and everyone involved in coordinating this event.
We will keep you updated on where our rhino will be displayed in the coming weeks.
